Abstract/Summary:
A telecommuting plan that was previously deemed unsuccessful by Human Resources, Health Information Management (HIM), and executive management was analyzed and updated to ensure it met the organization's needs. The outcome is a new telecommuting plan for the facility that can be adopted and implemented at three other facilities within the health system. Issues addressed set the base for a coding incentive plan that helps support the measurements needed to ensure a successful telecommuting plan. By ensuring that the plan benefits the coders, management, and the organization; efforts to recruit coders in the future will be stronger, and a successful ICD-10 implementation can be supported. The new telecommuting plan will support a new incentive pay plan that will ensure coders understand the goals of productivity and quality and at the same time are rewarded for excellent performance.
