Abstract/Summary:
In my Thesis, I intend to show how the Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the leading contributing factor to the Telecom Industry Debacle. I will briefly discuss the history of the Telecommunications Industry and how the need for competition; influenced the development of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.; Today the Telecom Industry is in a state of turmoil. Moreover, yes, if you are thinking the Telecommunications Act of 1996 is not the only cause of the industry tumbling, you are absolutely correct. Other factors that contributed to the demise of the industry are as follows: retraction of Venture Capital funding, Funny Accounting, Dot-Com failures, and a decrease in corporate IT spending. While all of the factors mentioned played a hand in the telecommunications debacle, I believe none of the factors had more of an impact than the Telecommunication Act of 1996.
