Abstract/Summary:
This essay is an analysis of the allemande from the Partita in A Minor for Solo Flute, BWV 1013, and a transcription of the partita for the double bass. The editing of the transcription is directly influenced by the analysis. Chapter one provides the background of the partita, as well as discussing any deviations from the manuscript in creating the transcription. Chapter two is an exhaustive motivic analysis of the allemande in which the movement's primary motives are identified and the relationship of each measure to the opening theme is shown. The analysis is performed using the original flute score, and not the transcription for the double bass. Chapter three addresses some of the ambiguities in the polyphonic line of the allemande and how the motivic analysis from the previous chapter affected the editing of the movement. Chapter four is the final edited transcription of the Partita for double bass.
