Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to identify the ways in which public sector unions are able to operate successfully in Right-to-Work states. It began with a literature review that analyzed a wide range of sources focused on union history, public sector unions, and the Right-to-Work movement. The literature review exposed a lack of current or innovative strategies that public sector unions are using to enhance their success in Right-to-Work states. As a result, a set of recommendations were generated that encourage said unions to implement a business-like approach. In addition, it is recommended that unions in Right-to-Work states use members-only contracts while also focusing on activity, publicity, and education.
