| The genus Astenus Dejean 1833(Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Paederinae:Lathrobiini: Lathrobiini,Astenina)can be recognized from other genera in subfamily Astenina by its 2 toothlike processes at frontier margin of labrum and forth tarsus divided into 2 parts.Members of the genus Astenus Dejean 1833 mainly occur under the wet forest leaf litter,also in haystacks near farm.Some species of this genus also can be found in nests of ants under stones.Members of this genus are widespread predatory insects feed on other small arthropoda,and play an indispensable role in the material circulation and ecological balance of the ecosystem.Previously,there were 477 species of this genus in the world,which were widely distributed in the world.Among them,28 species were recorded in China,mainly distributed in southern provinces.In the persent study,specimens from 19 provinces in China were reviewed,and compared with relavent literatures.The results are as follows:1.20 species of Astenus were recognized,including 8 new species: Astenus xizangensis sp.nov.,Astenus hanmiensis sp.nov.,Astenus guizhouensis sp.nov.,Astenus yunnanensis sp.nov.,Astenus nanbanhensis sp.nov.,Astenus bisulcus sp.nov.,Astenus hainanensis sp.nov.,Astenus guangdongensis sp.nov.;1 new reorder of China: Astenus ophis Fauvel,1895.2.Species mentioned above were described in detail and compared with related species.Habitus and major diagnostic characters for all species were illustrated.3.Database of the genus Astenus were built.4.Keys to Chinese species of Astenus were separately presented.5.Lists for Chinese species of Astenus were provided. |
