Lead rubber materials are traditionally used to shield X-rays.However,replacing lead with rare earth has become a new research direction due to the toxicity and weak X-ray absorption zone of lead.Appropriate surface modifiers have been identified by studying on the modifying effect of three different surface modifiers on the rare earth.A variety of soft rare earth/polypropylene composite fibers were prepared by melt-spinning and melt blowing process for nonwovens. In order to enhance the rare earth content, the optimized temperature was identified by studying p-xylene dissolving effects on fibers at different temperatures.Researches on the rare earth/polypropylene melt blowing process and the effects of a range of different addition of rare earth on the X-ray shielding properties of composite fibers led to the discovery that X-ray shielding properties were enhanced as the addition of rare earth increased. |
