In the peak of production upgrades, high efficiency and energy saving are the key to the survival of metallurgical enterprises. In the process of converter smelting, furnace life is a comprehensive technical and economic index, which can reduce the consumption of refractory material, improve the efficiency and reduce the production cost.So it is the key to upgrading of converter production.Magnesia carbon brick has been applied widely due to its excellent fire resistance in the converter smelting process, and with the requirements of steel performance is getting higher and higher, the slag resistance of magnesia carbon brick also has a higher demand. In this paper, the effect of slag composition on the erosion of magnesium carbon brick was studied by laboratory experiment, and the experiment was prepared with different compositions of CaO-SiO2-MgO-FeO system slag under the static condition of 1630? in the process of converter smelting.Under the experimental conditions employed in this work, the main conclusions are as follows:(1)The erosion interface of magnesia carbon brick could be divided into three parts slag layer, permeable layer and primary layer. The permeation layer contains a Fe phase and a magnesia alumina spinel phase. The formation of magnesia alumina spinel reduces the penetration of slag to refractory material, effectively slowing down the erosion rate of magnesia carbon brick.(2)With the content of MgO in slag increased, the erosion degree of magnesia carbon brick is reduced. The erosion degree of magnesia carbon brick is increased by the reduction of slag basicity, and when the basicity is higher than 3.5,the corrosion of the slag to refractory is reduced apparently.(3)The corrosion of the magnesia carbon brick also increases with the content of FeO in slag,so properly reducing the content FeO in slag in the later stage of converter smelting can not only improve the metal yield, but also reduce the erosion of refractory materials.
