Since the discovery of gold in California in 1848 set off a boom in the exploitation of gold, silver, and copper in the Far West.At first, the exploitation of mineral resources brought great economic benefits to the United States. However, with the expansion of mining scale and the progress of mining technology, the ecological consequences caused by mining become more and more serious. In this paper, the development of mineral resources in the Far West of the United States in the second half of the 19 th century to the ecological consequences of the development of mineral resources in the Far West of the United States in the second half of the 19 th century, and through the research of historical documents and legal provisions,to explore the ecological consequences caused by the development of mineral resources in the Far West,as well as social cognition and countermeasures. The paper is composed of three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction part states the reason of the topic selection, summarizes the academic achievements related to the mineral exploitation in the far west of the United States at home and abroad, and the academic value and practical significance of the topic selection of this paper. The first part explores the background of the exploitation of mineral resources in the Far West of the United States by sorting out the natural geographical environment, the discovery and early development of mineral resources in the Far West of the United States. In the second part, the ecological consequences caused by the mineral exploitation in the Far West of the United States are explained and the causes are analyzed.Landscape destruction, water pollution and flooding, biodiversity reduction, disease and noise pollution are taken as examples to analyze the ecological consequences caused by mining, and the causes are analyzed from the support of national policies, the development and innovation of mining technology, and the culture of interest first at that time. The third part mainly elaborates the different understandings of the government and civil strata on the ecological consequences caused by the exploitation of mineral resources in the Far West of the United States, the countermeasures taken by the government and civil parties, and analyzes its influence on the American society according to the measures taken by the government and civil society. The conclusion part, starting from the exploitation and utilization of the mineral resources in the far west of the United States, gives some general understandings on the environmental changes caused by the mineral resources...
