| The oil and gas industry is a major and growing contributor to the provincial economy but there is limited discussion of these impacts and their community economic development potential. The industry is still not considered a development priority within the economic development community and within the general population of Papua New Guinea(PNG).The benefits of the oil and gas industry are commonly misconceived to be limited to or restricted to government revenues and only short term in duration. In reality, the benefits reach far beyond and are multiple and long term. This thesis titled “Papua New Guinea’s positive impacts on economic and social welfare due to its oil and gas exploration and production”,it aimed to build awareness about the benefits of the oil and gas industry and to identify ways in which social and economic development from the oil industry is being fostered right now.So this thesis will provide answers to what can be done about the lack of public awareness about the benefits of oil and gas production developments. This report also reflects the views and initiatives of government and the PNG LNG Project developer to help manage these impacts. However, this report should not be read as an assessment of such initiatives. |
