The Impact Of Digital Economy Development On Environmental Pollution ——An Empirical Study Based On Urban Panel Data

The living standards and happiness of the Chinese people have been greatly improved since the reform and opening up,and the economy has also developed rapidly.However,the reason behind the rapid growth of our country’s economy is the large-scale consumption of natural resources and energy,which damages the ecological environment.To a large extent,it is not conducive to the healthy and stable development of my country’s economy.How to alleviate the contradiction between resources,energy and environmental pollution while promoting the healthy and stable development of my country’s economy,and how to realize the coordinated development of economy and environment has become an urgent problem to be solved in my country.At present,the development of the digital economy is in full swing.The digital economy has brought profound changes to the fields of government governance,enterprise production,and residents’ lives.It is the backbone of modern economic development.Whether the development of the digital economy can reduce environmental pollution requires effective evidence.Although scholars at home and abroad have been working on the research on the impact of environmental pollution,there are relatively few researches on environmental pollution caused by the digital economy,and its mechanism analysis and related empirical research are still immature.Therefore,studying the impact of my country’s digital economy development on environmental pollution and conducting empirical tests have certain reference value for building an environmentally friendly and green China.This thesis firstly reads the domestic and foreign literature related to digital economy and environmental pollution,and combines the previous research to expound the internal mechanism between the development of digital economy and environmental pollution,and then narrates the relevant theoretical basis of this thesis.The theoretical analysis of economic development on the level of environmental pollution,put forward the research hypothesis and possible influence mechanism of this thesis,and conduct empirical analysis based on relevant data.First,in terms of the selection of indicators,the measurement indicators of the development of the digital economy are obtained through the principal component analysis method,and then refer to the relevant literature and select industrial sulfur dioxide as the indicator of environmental pollution to analyze whether the development of the digital economy will have an impact on urban environmental pollution.,and at the same time,based on the differences in the geographical location and scale of cities in my country,the heterogeneity analysis is carried out from the perspectives of different regional levels and different urban scales.Explore further.The research results show that: first,the development of the digital economy has significantly reduced the level of urban environmental pollution,and the use of instrumental variable estimation,the introduction of "broadband China" as an exogenous policy shock for endogenous testing,the use of replacement explained variables,and replacement of core explanatory variables.The regression results are consistent with the benchmark regression results,indicating that the results are robust;second,based on the regional level and the size of the city,the cities in my country are divided into three regions,east,middle and west,and three categories of large,medium and small.In cities,the impact of the development of the digital economy on the level of environmental pollution was investigated,and it was found that there were significant differences in the impact of the development of the digital economy on environmental pollution in different regions and cities of different scales.Reduce the level of urban environmental pollution by improving the level of human capital and industrial agglomeration,that is,human capital and industrial agglomeration are important mechanisms for the digital economy to reduce urban environmental pollution.Based on the above research,this thesis finally puts forward relevant policy suggestions,including improving the construction of Internet infrastructure,accelerating the application of new technologies at the government level,enterprise level and people’s lives;at the same time,expanding the field of digital industries to improve the level of industrial agglomeration and the level of human capital.,through human capital and industrial agglomeration to drive the development of urban digital economy level;give full play to the role of human capital and industrial agglomeration in improving urban environmental pollution,and provide guarantees for building a beautiful China.
