In the face of the current ever-increasingly insufficient land resources, the development of urban underground space has become an inevitable trend of city modernization in our country. With the downward underground expansion of city life, people are demanding higher levels of physical and mental environments of the underground public space.Up to now,the development of urban underground space in our country is mainly conducted for the purpose of obtaining commercial interests. This has given rise to uniformly low levels of underground space quality, which is worrisome and has made worse the already negative impression it has left on urban people. To resolve this problem,by assimilating the conception of in-site public space architecture conceived by Taiwan architects and the experience of its successful application in Taiwan public space construction, this thesis has managed to come up with an underground version of the in-site architecture. To clearly describe my research results, this thesis is divided into four parts:Part One includes Chapter One.It describes the background of my research and its purpose and significance. It also offers a general view of research work done at home and abroad on urban underground utilization,in-site architecture, and the SD Method.Part Two includes Chapter Two.Firstly, correlation analysis of the research method(i.e.the SD Method),research object(i.e.underground public space)and research objective(i.e.underground public space application of in-sit architecture)is conducted.Secondly,a summary of the key points and dimensions---the people, the locality, and the time---of the in-site design is presented. And I also make an analysis of the in-site natural and cultural resources Chongqing City possesses and the present situation and features of the underground public space environment of Chongqing City. Finally,Based on the human-oriented architectural concept of the in-site architecture, and by conducting on-the-spot in-depth interviews and online surveys, data is analyzed and the perception dimension ratings of the underground space users are gained.Meanwhile,a semantic differential scale is devised in the framework of the in-site design dimensions, and evaluation data is obtained after surveys conducted in areas divided into on the spot as circumstances may allow.Part Three includes Chapter Three.By studying the broken-line graphs drawn as a result of the surveys and through field research,in-depth analysis is made of three downtown underground space areas of Chongqing City as well as their respective sections----the underground shopping mall of the Three Gorges Plaza, the Jinyuan Sleepless City of Guanyin Bridge, and Yixiang City of Nanping. Also,in the light of in-site architecture, major environmental problems are raised.Part Four includes Chapters Four,Five, and Six.Based on the above evaluation analysis, and with the support of excellent relevant cases, the application of in-site architecture in underground space environments is developed in three dimensions. In Chapter Four, from the perspective of the time, the design strategy of having the time as company is put forward. The strategy is developed in three respects:representation of natural images, the molding of historic cultural themes, and fitting-in reappearance of city images. In Chapter Five, from the perspective of the locality, the design strategy of fitting-in with the locality is put forward.Three perspectives in this regard are adopted : natural environment, site condition, and local materials. In Chapter Six,from the perspective of the people, the design strategy of people foremost is proposed.A description of the design strategy of street space supporting actions and activities and nodal space is provided. In addition, the barrier-free design of the so-called blending-in style is presented. To sum up,based on the value orientation of“ this time, this locality, and these people ”of in-site design, being people-oriented,fitting-in with nature and site, and representing local cultural characteristics are the three dimensions in creating high-quality underground public space environments. It is hoped to be offered for the reference of related government departments and as a basis of policy making.
