The aging of the population is an important social issue that China is currently facing. The huge demand for construction of elderly buildings has also increased the country’s economic investment. As a long-running,high-energy-consumption building, optimizing its building design will play an important role in the national energy-saving emission reduction strategy and the development of green buildings.Based on China’s national conditions, the adaptive design of microclimates for elderly buildings will help reduce the economic burden on society and the country.By analyzing the climatic characteristics of hot summer and cold winter area(CHEC),combining the spatial characteristics of older buildings and their psychological, physiological, and behavioral characteristics, and the analysis of the microclimate adaptability and development trends of older building spaces, this article focuses on the Spatial design strategy for old buildings in hot summer and cold winter areas. The first chapter begins with the social demand of elderly buildings and the necessity of adapting them to the climate, and outlines the purpose, significance, methods and research framework of the study. The second chapter first expounds the relevant theories of the elderly building space, including the space type of the elderly building and the characteristics of the elderly, summarizes the relationship between the natural characteristics of the elderly and the powerless environment, and then analyzes the microclimate adaptability of the architectural design The theory, including the concepts of building climate zoning, building climatology and microclimate adaptive building design,is discussed, and the influencing factors of climate adaptive design for the elderly are analyzed and summarized. The third chapter uses computer software to analyze the climatic effects of old buildings in hot summer and cold winter areas, and analyzes the microclimate adaptability characteristics of old building design from four aspects: thermal environment, wind environment, light environment and humidity environment. It is the development trend of heat protection, heat dissipation, dehumidification and heat insulation in winter, and the design of elderly building space from the perspective of microclimate. The fourth chapter discusses the microclimate adaptive design principles and strategies of the old building space in the hot summer and cold winter area from the aspects of the building orientation, building shape and building space of the old building space. The contradiction between lighting and heat protection, ventilation and wind protection, heat gain and heat loss in the design of building space.
