In today’s society, the aging population is increasing, and the problem of supporting the elderly has become the focus of global attention.Since the elderly with dementia are mostly elderly and have no obvious symptoms, they are often regarded as normal aging, which has not caused enough attention of the family members of the elderly with dementia. At present, home care is still the main way for the elderly with dementia in China, and the number of professional care facilities for the elderly with dementia is far less than that of Japan, the Netherlands and other seriously aging developed countries. At the same time, the family members of the elderly with dementia in China generally have insufficient awareness of dementia and lack of professional care methods, which makes it difficult to guarantee the original quality of life of the elderly with dementia and their families.Based on the evidence-based design theory, this study proposes key questions according to the current research status of care space design for the elderly with dementia. The behavioral patterns of the elderly with dementia were investigated through fixed point observation, behavior trace record and daily life behavior record,so as to study the relationship between the behavior of the elderly with dementia and space design,so as to obtain the needs of the elderly with dementia for indoor environment design and determine the evidence-based goals.By analyzing the cases of care facilities at home and abroad and combining the eight dimensions of the Environmental Assessment Scale(PEAP)of care facilities for the elderly with dementia made by the American scholar Lawton, evidence of the design of care space for the elderly with dementia was explored, and the design methods of interior space of care facilities for the elderly with dementia were summarized. Finally, based on the design evidence, design methods and current architectural design standards, the design of the care space for the elderly with dementia is carried out around the focus of the Environmental Assessment Scale(PEAP)for the care facilities for the elderly with dementia,to support the evidence-based design theory and the rationality of evidence-based design, and at the same time to provide evidence-based support for the design of the care space for the elderly with dementia. The main goal of the care space design for the elderly with dementia is to create a healing environment conducive to the physical and mental health of the elderly with dementia, help the elderly with dementia to achieve self-reliance as much as possible, delay the progression of dementia, and support the evidence-based design theory and the rationality of evidence-based design.
