| Modern cemetery is a new form derived from the cemetery to the modern age.It refers to the special urban open space and public green space integrating public leisure, memorial, education, ecological garden, open space and other diversified functions on the basis of the original funeral function of the cemetery for burying the dead.In China, influenced by traditional culture and concepts, cemeteries have long been used as nimby facilities and urban special functional areas in remote corners far from the city center, with the overall atmosphere gloomy and depressing. From the perspective of landscape ecology,China’s cemeteries adopt rigid paving over a large area, resulting in low green rate of cemeteries. The selection of plants is monotonous, and the collocation of plant communities lacks variety. The tombstone form is also inflexible single, lack culture and artistic quality. In addition,China’s traditional uncivilized sacrificial behavior also has a great negative impact on the image of the cemetery. With the exception of the brief stopover for the purpose of offering sacrifices and sweeping tombs, few people visit and stop. These characteristics are prominently reflected in the modern urban cemeteries in xi ’an.In the west, where urban cemeteries have become mature, especially the UK,which established the world’s first ecological cemetery as early as 1993,the cemeteries are people-oriented and pay special attention to the creation of landscape and atmosphere. It advocates diversified ecological burial methods, such as tree burial, flower burial and lawn burial. The tombstones are also in different shapes, highlighting the diversity of local culture and art.The cemetery in Edinburgh, capital of Scotland,is a good example of these features. In order to solve the problems of weak function, single form and unreasonable structure in the development of urban cemeteries, based on a horizontal comparative study of the landscape of modern urban cemetery in xi ’an,China, and the landscape of urban cemetery in Edinburgh,UK,and a longitudinal analysis of the ancient and modern cemetery culture in China, this paper explores the improvement of the landscape of modern urban cemetery in xi ’an.It is proposed to integrate cemeteries into the urban ecological system through gardenization,to integrate east and west, ancient and modern landscape culture,to create a clear and friendly landscape atmosphere,to encourage ecological burial, and to connect cemeteries with urban leisure tourism through parkerization.Taking the new cemetery subordinated to xi ’an funeral home as an example, the paper proposes specific landscape renovation measures from the overall layout and functional structure of landscape space, landscape of important public space nodes, landscape of tomb area, road system and pavement, plants, vertical and acoustic landscape. |
