Urban rail transit plays a major role in solving traffic jam and optimizing urban layout,creating huge economic and social values.At present,the innovation of rail transit has gradually shifted to aesthetic characteristics,and the impact of non-material elements such as aesthetics and culture on the design of rail vehicles has become increasingly significant.In the context of the lack of differentiation of urban rail vehicles,integrating culture into the design of urban rail vehicles can display the characteristic of culture,evoke cultural identity,and enhance the design value of urban rail vehicles.The key issues that need to be addressed in the research process are as follows: 1.there are a small number of modern trams in China,and the most are imported from abroad.Company have insufficient experience in the process of design and development,just putting the product to be designed in isolation,ignoring the important role of the design gene in development,lacking of brand awareness and the inheritance and innovation of styling features;2.The design plans of most subway vehicles in China have a certain trend of convergence and lack of characteristics and identification of regional culture.In order to improve people’s recognition of the city culture in their area,innovative design plans are urgently needed.First,on the basis of the existing essay,the current status of research on design DNA and urban rail vehicle style at home and abroad is analyzed.Next,the design DNA are theoretically explained from four aspect,the definition,the development,the classification,and the characteristics.Design DNA are divided into styling design DNA,color design DNA,and material design DNA.Under the relationship among design DNA,design environment,and product,this article proposes to take the regional culture and brand culture as the starting point to further study the design DNA of urban rail vehicles.Then,taking the regional culture as the starting point,research the design DNA of subway vehicles.Through a survey of city subway at home and abroad,using comparative analysis,it is found that subway in London,Berlin,and Paris are closely related to regional culture in terms of shape design DNA and color design DNA.But,that connection is very vague in China.Based on the analysis of regional culture theory,this paper proposes the research ideas of subway design DNA based on regional culture,extracting cultural elements from the external,intermediate,and core levels of regional culture and applying them to shape design DNA,color design DNA,and material design DNA.It is pointed out that the shape design DNA are extracted from the features by sketch analysis and the color design DNA are extracted by computer-aided design software,and the shape design DNA are analyzed by shape grammar.After that,based on the brand culture,research the design DNA of modern trams.By summarizing the brand and model of modern trams at home and abroad,and collecting a large number of pictures and texts,the design characteristics of every brands is found.Based on the analysis of the relationship among corporate culture,brand,and product,this paper proposes a research idea of modern tram design DNA driven by brand culture,that is,extracting cultural elements from the material layer,behavior layer,and spiritual layer of brand culture and applying them to shape design DNA,color design DNA,and material design DNA.It is pointed out that the shape design DNA are extracted from the feature by eye movement experiments and the color design DNA are extracted by computer-aided design software,and the shape design DNA are analyzed by Design Form Analysis(DFA).Finally,the shape design DNA extracted from the Shangzhou golden mask of Chengdu Jinsha Culture,and the color design DNA extracted from the logo of Chengdu Metro were applied to subway vehicle design.The shape design DNA and color design DNA extracted from the modern trams produced by CRRC Sifang were applied to the design of CRRC Sifang’s next generation modern trams.This paper summarizes the exploration and research direction for the application of regional culture and brand culture in the design of urban rail vehicles.To sum up,in the research process,through investigation and analysis of experiment data,this article combines subjective design idea in practice,achieving subjective and objective parallelism,and theoretical research and design practice complementing each other.However,a large amount of sample comes from the network in the research process,so it has limitations.Finally,the research in this article will hopefully bring new ideas and inspiration to the design of Chinese urban rail vehicles.
