The street network greatly affects the spatial structure and the form of the city, and at the same time it has extremely important significance for the development of the city. However, since the rise of modernism in the last century, urban planning around the world has tended to be utilitarian. The role of people in the street network has been ignored in the era of motor vehicles. At the same time, the rapid urbanization of domestic cities has exposed many urban with Chinese characteristics In particular, the old and new urban areas of many cities perform completely different street network characteristics, which needs scientific methods for classification research and analysis. Therefore, this thesis takes three different development model areas in Nanjing as research samples, builds a set of analysis methods that can accurately evaluate the shape of the urban street network.Based on this, the possible relationship between the street network form and the urban development factors is discussed. At the same time, combined with the questionnaire survey, the street space optimization strategy for different object characteristics is finally proposed. The first part of this thesis includes the basic background of the research and the introduction of related concepts, clarifies the research framework and method, and reviewed the development of related research. The second part combines Arc Gis,Depthmap and other tool platforms to quantitatively analyze and compare the street networks of the three research areas from the geometric shape and topological structure. In addition, the morphological characteristics of the street network are compared with the urban development factors of the respective districts, and discusses the potential influences and the differences among the objects. The third part investigates the residents’ satisfaction with the street environment and travel characteristics of each district through a questionnaire, attempts to verify the analysis conclusions of the network space form, and on this basis combined the second part to propose a street space optimization strategy for each district. Finally, the thesis summarizes the conclusions of the study, and analyzed the shortcomings and prospects. The thesis combines quantitative analysis methods and traditional description methods, and the graphical methods are used to intuitively and effectively express the urban street network morphology and street development level of different areas, which is conducive to domestic cities to better understand the shape of the city’s street network in the urbanization stage of the stock stage and find an optimization path that meets their own characteristics...
