With the acceleration of the domestic urbanization process, the above-ground space can no longer fully meet the needs of development. As a result, the development and utilization area of underground space in cities has continued to increase.Among them, the development of underground space with rail transportation as the carrier is the fastest. The increase in the scale of the underground space and the increase in the degree of compounding of functional streamlines have also brought about difficulties in wayfinding, especially for the intercity traffic complex that combines multiple transportation modes and commercial offices. It is complicated and crowded, and the problem of orientation is more prominent. In addition, the main research objects for space-oriented research at home and abroad are commercial complexes and underground commercial streets. There is a lack of this specific type of design method for the underground space of traffic complexes. Therefore, there is an urgent need to analyze and study the orientation of underground pedestrian space of intercity traffic complex. The full text combines the relevant theories of spatial orientation, analyzes and summarizes the design layout, functional streamlines, and morphological characteristics of the underground pedestrian space of the intercity traffic complex. It optimizes the rationality of its spatial orientation to ease the pathfinding of such spaces and to improve the efficiency of space use.Based on the theoretical research related to wayfinding, the article combines the research object with environmental perception, cognitive maps, pathfinding theory and spatial recognizability to carry out progressive research and elaboration, and thus analyzes the spatial characteristics of space,crowd-oriented needs and space-oriented characteristics of the underground walk in the intercity traffic complex. On this basis, the author selected two representative sites(Futian Station in Shenzhen and Binhai Station in Tianjin)to conduct field surveys and questionnaire surveys, and analyzed the functional flow lines, morphological characteristics, and factors affecting space complexity of the two sites.By means of statistical quantification, this paper analyzes the spatial characteristics of path obstacles, commercial factors, and slow stagnation. In the end,the article combines theory and research, and summarizes the design considerations including spatial organization layout, differentiated expression, typical space-oriented design and oriented auxiliary elements. These strategies provide a solution to alleviate the "wayfinding problem" from the source, and can provide a certain reference for improving the spatial orientation theory and practice of intercity traffic complex.
