China’s urban development mode has changed from "incremental expansion" to"optimization of inventory".Shanghai actively responds to the national policy and moves towards refined and high-quality urban renewal.The Measures for the Implementation of Urban Renewal of Shanghai Municipality clearly states that the emphasis should be placed on increasing public space to promote the communication of citizens,so as to adapt to the development requirements of urban resource and environment constraints and the sustainable improvement of urban spatial form and function.As a representative space to promote public communication,the market is an information window to convey the city’s history and culture.With the development of the market economy,the market has returned to the public life,but its space status does not meet the requirements of urban renewal.Therefore,under the guidance of the theory of "organic renewal",this paper explores the spatial design strategies of urban markets and completes the organic transformation of the markets.Firstly,on the basis of literature review,this paper analyzes the theory and practice of organic renewal,summarizes the development course,core,principle and transformation mode of organic renewal theory,and considers the enlightenment of organic renewal theory to the transformation of market.This paper analyzes market theory and practical projects,sorts out the functions,types,spatial characteristics,characteristics and constituent elements of urban markets,extracts the experience of urban market reconstruction,and summarizes the significance of spatial renewal of urban markets.Secondly,the paper summarizes the development problems and trends of Shanghai urban markets through field research,and makes clear the necessity and starting point of the transformation of Shanghai urban markets.Thirdly,according to the theory of organic renewal,it makes clear that the principles of urban market space reconstruction are integrity,diversity,human text and continuity of context,and constructs the updating strategy of Shanghai market space from four aspects:site selection planning,space construction,design implementation and operation management.Finally,the planning strategy of compound utilization of public space resources and the space building strategy of diversification,compound and systematization are obtained.Modular,mobile and ecologically sustainable design implementation strategy;Establishment of committee mechanism,multi-party coordination and improvement of time-sharing,rich planning content of the management and operation strategy.Fully activate the characteristics of intensive,participatory,identifiable and diversified urban markets.Finally,the feasibility of the organic renewal design strategy of the urban market is verified through the renovation practice of Shanghai Pudong LCM Commercial Plaza Market.The organic renewal design research of urban market aims to promote the urban renewal process of Shanghai,meet the diverse needs of modern residents,enhance the vitality and utilization rate of urban public space,continue the traditional culture,and stimulate the sound development of the market economy.At the same time,as an organic part of the city,it should keep a dynamic balance with urban renewal,and create a high-quality urban space environment suitable for living,business,travel,cultural communication,historical protection and social interaction,so as to provide a better quality of life for the general public.
