The high-speed railway station is a kind of modern building for the use of transportation that emerged with the development of science and technology. The rapid development of China’s high-speed railway construction has also prompted changes in the mode of modern railway passenger transport. Not only can this mode meet the basic demands of transportation and waiting,it has gradually become a multi-functional composite system. With a monotonous style and lacking vitality inside, the waiting rooms in traditional railway stations are usually not open to non-passengers,making it an urgent demand to improve the waiting environment. In the meanwhile,a large area on the back of the traditional railway station building tends to be cut off from the city, which caused the yard of railway station to be separated from the station house, making it inconvenient for both sides of the station and even for the transportation of the city. Thus,it has become a main concern to build up a more harmonious bond between high-speed rail stations and urban space during the future design of high-speed railway stations. The developing process and characteristics of China’s railway passenger stations in the high-speed railway era was analyzed in the paper to find out the shortcomings of the space mode in traditional railway stations.Through a combination of theory and practice,we also analyzed the new functions needed and new positioning of the railway passenger stations in the high-speed rail era,and cleared up the relationship between railway station houses and urban space. In addition to making high-speed railway stations to fulfill the traditional functions of waiting and transportation, this paper focused on reshaping the relationship between the interior space of railway stations and the layout of city by studying specific schemes and designs. Two more functions of modern railway stations were figured out: 1.With a more opened structure that corresponds to its location, the station shall become the connection between both sides of a city.2.The station house shall become a connector that links the building, the city, nature, and culture all together through enriching its internal activity space and updating the traditional waiting mode.Taking the scheme design of Hechi Railway Station in Guangxi province for example, the design goals of urban sharing, station complex and cultural continuity are proposed on the basis of the previous theory and analysis. The scheme took the concept of "corridor and bridge",a traditional architectural element in Hechi, and the structure of the station was built up with the corridor and bridges being its form and way of constructing. In this way,it served as a connector between station and urban space on the macro level, and a carrier for passengers’ activities on the micro level. The high-speed railway station will become a three-dimensional corridor bridge integrating corridors, waiting nodes, shopping, and cultural display. While innovating waiting modes to a certain degree,it also gets a creative way to show the cultural atmosphere of the local corridor bridge. What’s more, the building will be in all aspects connected with the city, and try to achieve an open connection between the station and the city as much as possible. In conclusion, the paper considered and summarized the design requirements of China’s original high-speed railway stations in the era of high-speed railway, and enumerated the deficiencies in the designing process and the issues that should be paid attention to in the future,in order to make more reasonable suggestions for future research.
