| As an important carrier of economic and trade cooperation between my country and Europe and countries along the Belt and Road,China Railway Express has improved the level of trade liberalization and facilitation, and has become a new path for local governments to deepen reforms, expand opening up,and promote local economic development.China Railway Express has achieved rapid development at the initial stage, but the disorderly competition, lack of integration of local sources, serious government subsidies for the express, and the impact of the market effect have made the role of the China Railway Express to boost the regional economy questionable.Facing the new stage of high-quality development requirements, exploring the impact of the opening of China Railway Express on urban productivity has become an important issue to be tested. This article uses the data of 276 prefecture-level cities in China from 2006 to2018,and based on the quasi-natural experimental feature of China Railway Express opening, introduces spatial economics and double difference theory, and constructs the SDID model and SDDD model of the impact of China Railway Express on urban productivity, empirically test the effect and mechanism of the opening of China Railway Express on urban productivity. And further analyze the heterogeneous effects of the opening of China Railway Express on the productivity of inland and coastal cities. Finally, combined with the theoretical analysis and empirical research results,it puts forward relevant policy recommendations on how to efficiently promote the increase of urban productivity by China Railway Express in the future. The results of this paper are as follows: First,China Railway Express has significantly promoted the increase in the productivity of opening cities. At the same time, the spatial spillover effect of the opening of China Railway Express has significantly promoted the productivity of unopened cities and boosted overall urban productivity growth confidence.Second, the mechanism path of China Railway Expressway Express to significantly promote the improvement of urban productivity is mainly manifested in four aspects: in terms of external economic effects,China Railway Express has significantly promoted technological progress in opening cities, and there is a partial siphonic effect on the technological progress of unopened cities, but it has not yet significantly affected the technological progress of unopened cities. In terms of resource synergy,China Railway Express significantly promoted the improvement of the technical efficiency of opening cities, and the spatial spillover effect significantly promoted the improvement of technical efficiency of unopened cities. In terms of economies of scale,China Railway Express has significantly inhibited the increase in the scale efficiency of opening cities, and there is a partial spatial spillover effect on the scale efficiency of unopened cities, but it has not yet achieved a significant increase in the scale efficiency of unopened cities.Third, the impact of China Railway Express on the productivity of inland cities and coastal cities is different.Compared with inland cities,China Railway Express has optimized the productivity growth model of coastal cities, and its effect is greater, but there is no significant spatial spillover effect.China Railway Express has activated the growth momentum of inland cities’ productivity, significantly increased the total factor productivity of the inland cities, and at the same time promoted the increase in the productivity of the inland cities that have not been opened. |
