This paper mainly studies how to achieve the goal of saving energy by reducing the design value of road luminance with perceived brightness constant. It starts from the two main factors of road surface luminance and glare veiling luminance which have an influence on the perceived brightness, decomposes the perceived brightness and pupil size, and respectively studies the relationship between the perceived brightness of road surface luminance and glare veiling luminance through experiments,to further explore the relationship between the glare veiling luminance and and road surface luminance with perceived brightness equivalent to road surface luminance. Finally, the experimental results are discussed and revised from multiple angles to discover a relatively reasonable reduction ratio of the road surface luminance, and to provide new possibilities for energy saving of street lamps. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part discusses the research background and significance, which proposes that the new energy-saving measure to reduce road surface luminance needs to ensure a certain perceived brightness and proposes the research ideas based on the deficiencies of current researches on the impact of different factors on perceived brightness. In the second part, from the shortcomings of the existing quantification of perceived brightness,it is proposed that the changes of perceived brightness should be studied through the auxiliary physical quantity of pupil size. Then, based on the complexity of the influence of road surface luminance and glare on perceived brightness, the pupil size and perceived brightness are researched and decomposed, leading to the key point of the perceived brightness of road surface luminance and proposing a research method of the perceived brightness equivalent to road surface luminance. The third part quantifies the relationship among the perceived brightness equivalent to the road surface luminance, the road surface luminance and the glare veiling luminance with experimental devices, and provides data support for the quantification of the perceived brightness within a certain range.Combined with the existing road lighting standards, the changes of perceived brightness within the specified range are further measured and more accurate. It is found that there is a linear Perceived Brightness relationship between the change in pupil size caused by glare and the change in road surface luminance under the certain condition of perceived brightness equivalent to road surface luminance. The fourth part is based on the research results of the third part for reverse experiment verification.According to the differences in the results,a series of discussions and amendments are made on the experimental results for such factors as the road background luminance, glare light source, age and contrast to obtain the reasonable road surface luminance reduction ratio for the energy saving effect of street lamps. The last part is the summary and prospect of the paper.I hope that follow-up researchers will combine the research results of the laboratory with the dynamic vision of the driver in the actual scene to further understand the relationship between retinal illumination and perceived brightness, and apply the existing research results to the studies on coping with vehicle glare, and more detailed improvement measures have been proposed for existing road lighting.
