Study For Nanjing Morden Hospitals

As the main stage of modern Chinese history,Nanjing has left a rich architectural heritage.The hospital is a witness of cultural exchanges and conflicts between China and the West.The development of modern medical architecture has magnified this exchanges and conflicts.By analyzing the history of modern medical buildings in Nanjing and typical medical buildings,this article hopes to sort out the development context of modern medical buildings in Nanjing,and summarize the repair and current status of some of the buildings,in order to fill the gap in the research of modern medical buildings in Nanjing.This paper explores the historical data of medical buildings in Nanjing during the Republic of China through file search and historical material search,and conducts field research.The main body of the article is divided into three parts.The first part reproduces the development history of western medicine on the land of Nanjing from two aspects of medical institutions and medical development,and explains the impact on the development of medical architecture.Through the comparative analysis of relevant historical data and related historical works,the development of Western medicine into Nanjing and the subsequent more than100 years has been reproduced from two aspects.The second part selects five representative hospitals from the existing modern medical buildings in Nanjing: Drum Tower Hospital,Naval Hospital,Central Hospital,Central University Affiliated Dental Hospital,and Tuberculosis Hospital for analysis.Through the historical literature search,the development overview of medical buildings is reproduced,combined with the comparison of field research photographs and historical photos,and a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the medical building’s shape,facade modeling and repair status and other factors.In the third part,through historical data sorting and online collection,historical data and related information of many hospitals originating in modern Nanjing are sorted out.The modern medical buildings in Nanjing that have records and historical significance but no longer exist are also analyzed.Due to the scattered data,they mainly focus on the changes in the functional layout of the general plan and historical evolution.Modern medical architecture in Nanjing is an important branch in the history of modern architecture in Nanjing.The conclusion of the article summarizes the development of modern medical architecture in Nanjing through the comparison of the development of medical architecture before and after modern times,as well as reflections on the repair and protection of modern medical architecture in Nanjing.And summarize the lack and prospects of modern medical building research in Nanjing.
