With the rapid development of China’s railway,the construction of railway stations in cities in China is coming all around.The railway stations play more and more important role in the city.The station area has become an important transportation hub and urban living place in the city.People paid more and more attention to the construction of the station area and the troubles caused by that.There are still many deficiencies in the construction of the primary development zone of the railway station area in China,such as chaotic traffic,improper function configuration,low environmental quality,and fragmentation of the station city space.These phenomena reveal that there is a lack of overall thinking about the construction of the primary development zone of the station area,and only the design and construction of the railway station itself is considered.Therefore,the primary development zone of the station area should be designed and optimized with the concept of station-city integration to make it an integrated thing,so that the railway station can better integrate into the urban space and give full play to its catalyst effect.This study firstly clarifies the relevant concepts and properties of the primary development zone of railway station area,and proposes the spatial elements of the primary development zone of railway station area.Secondly,this study analysis the contradictions faced in the construction of the primary development zone.The study researches and analysis of the primary development zone of the representative large-scale railway station area in the Yangtze River Delta to summarize the problems.Thirdly,the key point in the design of the primary development zone is summarized based on the concept of station-city integration.And the design strategies of the primary development zone are proposed in terms of transportation organization,functional organization and public space.Finally,the paper takes the Hangzhou West Station project as an example to show how the relevant design strategies are applied in the design of the primary development zone of the station area.This paper strives to make the research scientific and practical,so as to provide a reference for the construction and development of the primary development zone of railway station area in China.
