| This study was conducted to assess the impact of Bus rapid transit(BRT)on informal settlement regeneration,the case of Manzese neighborhood,Dar es Salaam city.Specifically To identify actual physical development resulted after introduction of bus rapid transit infrastructure;To examine and review the relationship between bus rapid transit and Informal settlement regeneration;To find out the impact associated with informal settlement regeneration along 200 meters from BRT corridor at Manzese neighborhood and To examine the procedures applied for Manzese informal settlement regeneration.Due to the nature of the research,there was a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methodological approach and a case study design was used to create context-based information.Both primary and secondary sources of data was used for the research;Primary data was collected using questionnaire,observations,surveys,and semi-structured interviews;the combination of stratified random,simple random and purposive sampling methods was employed as sampling techniques.GIS,Excel and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS)version 23 was employed for analysis.Database platform was sorted,coded,analyzed and interpreted using descriptive Map and descriptive statistical techniques including percentage,mean,standard deviation and coefficient of variation and presented using tables.Correlation and regression analysis was carried out to test relationship between variables.The study found that,there is statistical significant relationship between BRT and informal settlement regeneration.It was also found that there is statistical influence in both Bivariate and multivariate level between Informal Settlement Regeneration and increase in property value,change in neighborhood characteristics,and increase in investment in neighborhood along the BRT corridor at Manzese areas(positively).In this study it is evidenced that bus rapid transit has positive impact on informal settlement regeneration at Manzese area.Also based on the findings,it was recommended that,the establishment of transit oriented development(TOD)and Community participation along the bus rapid transit corridor it will help to integrate transport and urban development for sustainable settlement regeneration. |
