Research On The Protection And Renewal Of The Historical Area Of Urban Village From The Perspective Of Place Memory

After the reform and opening up of China,the mode of urban modernization construction in China started rapidly.With the background of backward farming society in China,the urban form learned from modern city construction abroad,thus,the urban village(village-in-the-city)became the product of this process.Many old villages are faced with transformation,or even reconstruction due to the outdated infrastructural conditions and poor living environment.However,while achieving the goal of renovation,it also leads to the phenomenon of serious rupture of the traditional context.The problem of urban villages has a long-term and complex nature in the urban development.So far,there have been some scientific understanding and research about the renewal of urban villages.They took cultural value and protection of architectural entities into consideration from the perspective of history and culture.Based on previous studies,this paper introduces a new way of thinking,that is,from the perspective of place memory,to find and discuss a new way of urban village renewal and historical inheritance from the viewpoint closer to people’s lives and inner feelings.It not only makes the urban village more easily accepted by urban residents but also makes the urban village find its own positioning and value in protection and renewal.Starting from the perspective of place memory,this paper holds that place memory,as an invisible carrier of the history and culture of urban villages,existing in people’s traditional life style and life experience.It should excavate and obtain a creation and inspiration from traditional life so as to realize the protection and continuation of place memory in urban villages at the architectural level.Thus,the place memory can be retained in the historical sites of urban villages.In the first chapter,the author introduces the research background,research purposes,research objectives and the analysis methods used in the paper.In the second chapter,the author focuses on the definitions of place memory,urban village and other related concepts.Meanwhile the author studies the relevant cases at home and abroad analyzed and studied based on those definitions.In the third chapter the author combines the traditional culture with life style of urban villages,classifies the elements of place memory in urban villages,analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of the elements of place memory.And finally,summarizes the protection strategies and inheritance strategies of the elements of place memory.In the fourth chapter,the author takes the historical area of Jiangchengbao Village as an example,investigates and sorts out the memory elements of Jiangchengbao Village based on the traditional life style of this area,which finally helps to put forward a utility design that can be used back to protect and renew the Jiangchengbao village.
