The elderly population in China is large and growing rapidly. With the deepening of aging, the current society is facing the challenge of effectively improving the living environment of the elderly. In the context of traditional social life habits and national policy encouragement, the elderly in China are more likely to choose the home care model, and the residential community has become the main scope of activities for the elderly, and the public space has undoubtedly become an important place for the elderly to carry out community activities;and At the same time,China’s urbanization is developing rapidly. The characteristics of highdensity and intensification of urban land are obvious.High-rise residential buildings are lined up.In order to increase the public activity space of the community, the form of elevated bottoms of high-rise residential buildings is more and more common.Consideration of the activity needs of the main group of the elderly. In the context of the current deepening of aging and the prominent living environment problems for the elderly,in order to provide richer environmental support for the activities of the elderly in high-rise residential areas,it is of great significance to optimize the environmental construction of the public activity space at the ground floor.First of all, this article combines the background of aging and urbanization to clarify the importance of the overhead space environment to the community activities of the elderly. At the same time,it sorts out the development and research status of the overhead space, related policies and regulations, and analyzes the relevant theoretical basis and the characteristics of the elderly activities. And the environmental demand theory, the spatial characteristics of the overhead space, etc.have been studied, and the elements of the environment of the bottom overhead space activity have been summarized. Then conducted a survey of more than 20high-rise residential communities in the central city of Chengdu, analyzed and summarized the construction of the low-level overhead space of high-rise residential buildings in Chengdu;surveyed the actual use of the overhead space by the elderly through observation records, questionnaire interviews and other methods. The characteristics of activities in the overhead space and the requirements of the activity environment, and analysis of the problems existing in the space environment of each activity type.Secondly, combined with the current situation of the activity scene in the overhead space of the case, analyze the environmental elements and characteristics of the activity site, from the six aspects of the location distribution of the overhead space, the entrance path, the external landscape, the content and layout of the activity facilities, the space scale, and the decoration of the space interface. The impact of site environmental elements on the activities of the elderly in the overhead space, combined with the evaluation of the use of the elderly, analyzes the degree of impact of various site environmental design elements on different activities. Finally, the article proposes design principles that fit the characteristics of the elderly’s activities, and proposes design strategies for the leisure communication space, sports fitness space, and parent-child entertainment space in the bottom overhead layer. At the same time, considering the comprehensive utilization of activity space from the aspects of space resources, activity implementation, maintenance and management,it provides a certain reference for the construction of overhead activity space environment for the elderly in high-rise communities. And by the specific design case for empirical application of aerial space design strategy.
