Study On The Improvement Of Requirement Management In New Product Development Project Of Company A

The growing global awareness of health is making medical devices increasingly important.With the Covid-19 pandemic ripping through the whole world,the development of relevant medical devices is high on the agenda of every country.China has been seeing a swelling medical device market in recent years.However,medical devices from Chinese manufacturers are mostly middle-range or low-end products,far behind those from their peers in Europe,the US,Japan,etc.China’s high-end medical device industry is still dominated by foreign players.To make a figure in the global market,Chinese medical device manufacturers have to develop more independent intellectual properties,step up technological innovation,and speed up transformation.Particularly,innovative R&D is the be-all and end-all of China’s medical device industry transformation.Innovative R&D must start from a deep understanding of user requirements.In this paper,Company A is a typical medical device manufacturer in the current context,as it has put innovation as its top priority and aimed to earn a place in the global medical device market.The company has implemented strict processes of quality,progress and cost control.However,the company has yet to pay more attention to requirement management,which is a core part of the whole project management process and a key factor in project success.The company has to wrestle with an array of requirement-related issues,such as incomplete requirement collection,unclear requirements and frequent requirement changes.Centered on the requirement management in the new product development project of Company A and based on literature research,this paper summarizes the status quo of requirement management through an interview survey,analyzes relevant problems,and devises corresponding improvement solutions: refine the requirement management process based on the requirement engineering theory and consider requirements from perspectives of requirement development and management;streamline the product development cycle,as a clear product development process is a prerequisite for requirement management;and establish a requirement management team to get rid of reliance on personal decisions.To make requirement management more workable in inter-departmental collaboration,a matrix project management mechanism has been introduced to grant more powers to project managers.This paper also identifies the problems during the solution implementation and proposes relevant supporting measures to address these challenges.Company A sets the systematical requirement management as a specific object,which allows Company A to achieve project objectives more efficiently.Based on Company A’s actual conditions in the daily product development process,as well as relevant theoretical knowledge,this paper has proposed a solution that can enhance the company’s core competitiveness without compromising the customer satisfaction.
