Study On The Design Art Of Mountain Gardens In West Lake,Hangzhou

As an important part of West Lake landscape,West Lake mountain gardens are distributed in the mountains surrounding West Lake,and their construction history can be traced back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty.Over past one thousand years,a variety of mountain garden types with both traditional and modern styles gradually emerged,which is a typical representative of Hangzhou gardens and an important branch of Jiangnan gardens,embodying Hangzhou’s history and culture and gardening ingenuity.For a long time,previous studies have mostly focused on lake and lakeside area,this paper takes the West Lake mountain garden as the research object,combining with literature and case analysis,sorting out the historical evolution,and studying the site selection,layout principle and detail design of the garden systematically,It aims to summarize the artistic features of the West Lake mountain garden,improves the artistic content of Hangzhou West Lake,and provides beneficial ideas for the planning and design of Chinese mountain gardens,even larger scenic spots in the future.The research results are mainly reflected in the following four aspects:(1)In terms of the macroscopic site selection and distribution characteristics,this paper summarizes the site selection characteristics of West Lake mountain gardens according to different types of site selection,including the peak,ridge,hidden slope,secluded valley and piedmont,and distribution characteristics of gathering and scattering.(2)This paper makes an in-depth discussion on the spatial combination and layout principle of the middle view of the West Lake mountain garden from the layout that varies according to the environment,the tour line that follows the mountain,the line of sight of different scenery,the spatial sequence of orderly transformation,and the multi-dimensional garden space.(3)From the micro-level,focusing on the elements of landscape construction of mountain garden,summarizes the art and characteristics including landscape topography,layout of waters,architecture,plants,short and simple artistic creation of landscape,horizontal inscribed board and couplets,and soundscape construction.(4)This paper concludes that the art of West Lake mountain gardens covers "true mountains and true water,garden in picture","learning from nature,making the best of the situation","borrowing the scenery well,unlimited scenery" and "blending ancient and modern fusion,inheriting the cultural ".Meanwhile,the author put forward the development vision of West Lake mountain garden with the help of modernized and big data analysis.
