Design Strategies For Adding Elevators And Elevator-associated Space To Old Residential Buildings

In the current urban renewal,adding elevators to old residential buildings is one of the important measures to enhance the vitality of residential areas and improve the quality of a livable environment.Adding elevators provides convenient and barrier-free traffic conditions for residents’ daily travel.Now adding elevators only focuses on improving the vertical traffic function of old residential buildings,but fails to improve the quality of the overall space of the residential building.In this thesis,we will regard adding elevators as the main research object,and organically integrate the elevator-associated space which is closely related to elevators with the old residential buildings.By researching the community renewal theory,micro-transformation theory,humanization theory,and other related residential theories and surveying the adding elevators cases in the urban area of Chengdu,we found out that the main shortcoming and problem is adding elevators failed to integrate into the existing environment.By integrating elevator-associated space into adding elevator and environment,this thesis analyzes the influencing factors of quality improvement in the renovation,the space composition pattern of the added elevator and elevatorassociated space,and the traffic organization pattern of the elevator and the existing buildings.Through this thesis,we summarize the design principles of adding elevators and elevatorassociated space,the traffic organization mode strategy,the design strategy of elevatorassociated space,the design strategy of space detail,and the technical support strategy.
