In the higher education training system,curriculum is an important carrier for colleges and universities to cultivate high-quality talents,and it is also a concrete embodiment of educational thought.General education courses are basic courses designed by various talent training units in colleges and universities based on the concepts and goals of general education,that is,courses and coursework-related activities other than professional courses.Since its birth in the late 19 th century,general education in the United States has undergone many reforms and has a lot of experience.This research comprehensively uses the method of literature analysis and comparative research to conduct a descriptive research on the general education curriculum system of engineering and technology majors in American colleges and universities.Specifically,the main research objects are American universities ranked by QS World University Rankings(QS World University Rankings,hereinafter referred to as QS)engineering and technology majors.It summarizes the development process of general education in American colleges and universities and its value and role in engineering and technology professional education.That is,general education courses are one of the important channels for cultivating future engineers,and general education courses help to cultivate future engineers.Comprehensive capabilities of engineers.It focuses on clarifying the curriculum system of general education for engineering and technology majors in American colleges and universities from five aspects: curriculum objectives,curriculum structure,curriculum content,teaching mode,and evaluation methods.Through the phenomenon to see the essence,it excavates the general education of engineering and technology majors in American colleges and universities.The development law and operation mode of the curriculum system,and the characteristics of the curriculum system are summarized.In terms of goals,it focuses on cultivating various comprehensive practical abilities of engineering talents and focusing on solving complex engineering problems to meet the demands of society for engineering talents;in terms of structure,it takes the four general types of general education courses as the main structure and integrates the school itself.Features;in terms of content,it focuses on the knowledge of engineering and technology professional fields,supplemented by multiculturalism,and penetrates the spirit and professional ethics of engineers through multiple channels;in terms of teaching mode,it is driven by the seminar mode and relies on project-based scientific research cooperation,which is effective Stimulate the creative thinking of engineering talents;in the course evaluation,focus on the comprehensive evaluation of engineering talents as the core,and set up general education management institutions to ensure the quality of engineering talents training.Finally,while drawing on the advanced experience of the general education curriculum system for engineering and technology majors in the United States,combined with the background of the times and the actual strategic needs of our country,the paper puts forward optimization suggestions: First,based on the new requirements of the times,clarify the concept of general education in engineering colleges and universities.Second,deepen the integration of production and education,and establish a general education curriculum structure that conforms to the characteristics of Chinese universities;third,actively deepen reforms and promote the reform of general education teaching forms and subject systems.
