To meet the growing demand for energy and reduce environmental pollution,the Chinese government has made new energy vehicles a clear target for the future transformation of the automotive industry.As the world’s new energy vehicle companies enter the international market,Chinese new energy vehicle companies need to develop innovative strategies and have strong innovation capabilities in the face of increasingly fierce international competition.Therefore,when Chinese new energy vehicle companies develop or adjust their internationalization strategies,they must have a deep understanding of their performance in the international market and how much internationalization affects their innovation capabilities.Therefore,this paper selects Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises with strong international competitiveness as the research object,and explores the impact of internationalization on the innovation capability of Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises,so as to give relevant suggestions and references to the enterprises in the same industry.This paper selects Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises to investigate the impact of their internationalization on their innovation capability and the mechanism between the two.First,this paper reviews and analyzes the findings of previous studies related to internationalization and innovation capability.Second,this paper summarizes the theoretical perspectives and mechanisms of the impact of internationalization on the innovation of new energy vehicle companies,and provides theoretical support for the empirical research in the following paper.Third,this paper analyzes the current situation of internationalization and innovation of Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises,so as to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the international development and innovation of Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises.Fourth,this paper uses the data of 15 listed new energy vehicle manufacturers,including BYD,from 2011 to 2020 to establish a two-way fixed-effects model,and then uses variable substitution to test the regression results,which shows that the internationalization of new energy vehicle enterprises can promote their innovation ability.Finally,this paper selects BYD as a case study and analyzes the impact of its internationalization on its innovation capability through reverse technology spillover effect,human capital flow effect,R&D cost-sharing effect and competition effect.From the enterprise level,Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises should rationalize their internationalization strategy according to their actual situation,and pay more attention to their innovation capability.At the government level,the government should moderately encourage and support Chinese new energy vehicle enterprises to carry out international operations,and should also pay attention to the protection of intellectual property rights,so as to promote enterprise innovation with a good atmosphere of openness to the outside world and R&D innovation.
