At present, the focus of China’s "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" work has historically shifted to comprehensively promoting rural revitalization. With the basic completion of the process of urbanization and the increasing improvement of farmers’ living standards, the majority of farmers require to improve the living conditions, but also to improve various infrastructure facilities,so as to realize the same supply of service facilities as the city. Therefore, the concept of village and town community should be born from time to time.In recent years, domestic scholars have mostly carried out the research on rural communities from the perspective of their concept, evaluation standard system and development suggestions, but rarely mentioned the research on their spatial structure.Restricted by many factors such as geography, climate, society, economy and culture, and the differences of villages and towns in spatial scale and form, the spatial structure of villages and towns in various regions is complex,so it is difficult to put forward universal types and paradigms for research.By decomposing the village and town communities into units with similar spatial scales and analyzing the spatial structure of village and town communities from the perspective of units,we can deal with the problems of great differences in terrain and scale.Different types of village and town communities are only reflected in the different internal structure and external combination of units.Firstly, the first chapter expounds the research background, research object and scope, research purpose and significance, research methods and contents, and combs the research status of village and town communities, spatial structure and units. While defining the relevant concepts, the second chapter leads to the relevant theories and methods involved in this thesis, and establishes the method of studying the spatial structure of rural communities from the perspective of unit governance through induction and integration. The third chapter uses this research method to classify the selected village and town community samples for many times, takes 18 typical village and town community cases as examples to illustrate the causes and characteristics of village and town community unit division, constructs the quantitative map of village and town community form and structural characteristics, and compares and analyzes the laws and characteristics of various spatial elements in village and town community units under various terrains.Based on the division of typical village and town community units, the fourth chapter defines the quantitative relationship between village and town communities and units, qualitatively analyzes the influencing factors of the spatial structure of the divided units, and extracts the structural mode and dynamic evolution law of each spatial element within the village and town community units.Decomposing the village community into similar units, quantitatively analyzing the spatial structure of the village community and expressing it in a graphical way can provide new ideas for the future development and spatial quantitative research of the village community. In line with the Rural Revitalization Strategy and the needs of beautiful villages,it has certain theoretical and application value for the planning and design of villages and towns in China.
