Masson pine(Pinus massoniana Lamb.)is the main timber tree for afforestation in southern China because of its excellent traits,such as fast growth,high yield,stress resistance,wide.To explore the phenotypic variation of wood mechanical properties and growth traits of Masson pine provenance,and to analyze the correlation between wood mechanical properties and geo-climatic factors of provenance is the theoretical basis for screening provenance with excellent wood mechanical properties and growth performance.Studying the genetic variation of growth traits of controlled pollination families in multiple sites,exploring the interaction between genotypes and environment,and screening stable and high yield genotypes can provide materials for high generation breeding of this tree species and promote its breeding process.The growth traits of hybrid progeny were evaluated comprehensively,which laid the foundation for the cultivation of new interspecific hybrid varieties of Masson pine.The main results are as follows:(1)Provenance variation of mechanical properties of P.massoniana.The results of the study on the mechanical properties of 33-year-old Pinus massoniana provenances showed that there were significant differences in wood mechanical properties among different provenances,and the variation coefficients of various mechanical properties ranged from 5.40%to 21.04%.The results of correlation analysis showed that the wood mechanical properties of Pinus massoniana had no significant correlation with provenance longitude and latitude,but had significant negative correlation with provenance air temperature and precipitation,indicating that the difference of wood mechanical properties of Masson pine was mainly affected by provenance hydrothermal resources.Provenance temperature is the best predictor of wood mechanical properties of provenance.The lower the provenance temperature is,the higher the wood hardness and bending strength are.The indexes of wood mechanical properties of P.massoniana were significantly negatively correlated with DBH and volume,but positively correlated with the ratio of height to diameter,and positively correlated with the indexes of wood mechanical properties.The results of comprehensive evaluation of membership function showed that the top three provenances of membership values of wood mechanical properties of Pinus massoniana were Anhua in Hunan,Nanjiang in Sichuan and Liping in Guizhou.Combined with the performance of growth characters,the top three Masson pine provenances were Qingyuan in Zhejiang,Anhua in Hunan and Liping in Guizhou.(2)Variation of growth traits in full-sib families of P.massoniana.The results of genetic analysis of growth traits in three controlled pollination families of Pinus massoniana showed that the interaction of height,DBH and volume among families,locations,families and locations was extremely significant,and the heritability of families was 0.59-0.84.The heritability of individual plant was 0.16-0.38,which indicated that the growth traits of families with controlled pollination were controlled by more than medium genetic control.The B-type correlation coefficients of growth traits of Pinus massoniana families in the three experimental sites were all less than 0.8,indicating that there was a significant interaction between family growth traits and site.Based on the traits of DBH and tree height,12 excellent families and 49 excellent individual plants were selected.The results of GGE biplot analysis showed that the experimental sites of(TZS)and Xiajiang(XJ)in Taizishan and Xiajiang were one group(the volume of family 6 was the largest),and that of Shaowu(SW)was the group(the volume of family 4 was the largest).Among the three family experimental forests,the volume of families 6,15 and 3 was higher and stable,and that of family 4 was higher but unstable.(3)Variation analysis of growth traits of hybrid seed of P.massonianaThe results of variation analysis of growth traits of hybrid seed generation of 10-year-old showed that among the three types of hybrid pine,P.massoniana × P.massoniana had the highest average growth,P.massoniana × P.taiwanensis had the best straightness and crown width,and P.massoniana × P.taeda had the largest number of whorls.The growth traits and shapetraits of 10-year-old hybrids families were significantly different among families,and the crown width and the number of whorls were positively correlated with growth traits.The growth and shapetraits of hybrids with significant differences were comprehensively evaluated by membership function method,and 10 excellent hybrid combinations were selected.The superior provenances and families selected in this study can provide improved varieties for forestry production.The selected excellent hybrid combinations provide a theoretical basis for the breeding of new varieties of P.massoniana.
