Kuitun Reclamation area of the Seventh Division of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps is located in the southwest of Junggar Basin at the northern foot of Tianshan Mountains.With the rapid development of cotton mechanical picking,the traditional cotton varieties are difficult to meet the requirements of mechanical picking,resulting in the reduction of raw cotton quality and affecting the competitiveness of cotton market.Therefore,the selection of cotton varieties suitable for planting in Kuitun reclamation area is of great significance to promote the development of local cotton industry and improve the quality of raw cotton.In this study,10 conventional cotton varieties were selected,and the changes and differences of growth period,agronomic characters,yield and fiber quality of each variety were analyzed and compared.the varieties with high yield and high quality were selected,which were suitable for planting in Kuitun reclamation area.The main results are as follows:The main results are as follows:(1)the changes of growth period of different tested varieties(lines)are as follows: strain Q14-37 is stable and shortest in different years,and can be used as an early-maturing cotton variety suitable for planting in Kuitun reclamation area;in terms of agronomic characters,the plant height of variety Z1112 is about 80 cm,which is higher than that of other varieties,and its field performance is stable.The number of fruit branches and bolls per plant of strain 1609 and strain Q14-37 were outstanding.(2)the leaf abscission rate of strain 1601 was the highest after spraying defoliation ripening agent for 15 days,followed by Xinluzao 35,followed by variety Z1112 and strain QM-2.(3)from the analysis of yield components,the fruit branch number characters of strain1606 and strain Q14-37 were stable,the bolls per plant of strain 1606 were more,the boll weight of strain 1601 and variety Z1112 were more stable,the seed index of variety Z1112 was higher,and the lint percentage of strain 1602 was better among years.(4)according to the comprehensive two-year test,the fiber length of strain Q14-37 and strain P443 was better than that of the control,which was 32.04~32.12 mm,30.67 and31.54 mm respectively,and the micronaire value of variety Z1112 and strain Q14-37 was 4.18(A)~ 4.25(B2)and 4.24(B2)~ 4.27(B2),respectively.The specific breaking strength of Z1112,Q14-37 and 1606 was higher than that of the control and30 c N/tex,whichwas31.73-32.3c N/tex,31.18-34.7c N/texand30.06-31.7c N/tex,respectively.Compared with the control variety Xinluzao 35,Z1112 has the best comprehensive performance in terms of growth period,agronomic characters,yield characters and fiber quality,which is a suitable candidate for mechanized cotton picking in Kuitun reclamation area.
