At early twentieth century in London Bloomsbury district, Bloomsbury group, a British intellectual and cultural elite group, is the one of the most important groups in History of modern British Ideas, literary history and art history. As an umbrella label, Bloomsbury refers to individuals who were active in a number of fields—art, art criticism, literature, economic, political and social theory. The Victorian Era is an era full of contradictions and also an era that formed a connecting link between what comes before and what goes after. The Victorian morals, which are obstinate and rigid, unavoidably showed its negative influence while it dominated the England society. At the right moment, Bloomsbury Group held the revolted banner.This article makes an attempt to survey the relationship of Modern English Art to the Bloomsbury Group, an elite intellectual group in London in the early 20th century, in the hope of highlighting the background of Modern English Art and the Bloomsbury Group. This paper analyzes the art activities and esthetics of the Bloomsbury in different periods historically; and reviews the connection and influence between the members in the same time. The two lines which interlace together and with the situation and condition of England of the specific times to form a cubic web. We can understand the great achievement of Bloomsbury at that time clearly. Bloomsbury's special criticism to Victorian morals and ideas is actually the first sighs of modernist literature schools which try to destroy all the sacredness and subvert all the seriousness. Afterwards, modernism such as Vorticism,London Group and post-war modern sculpture on to a different extent by the concept of the impact of Bloomsbury. The paper discusses the origin reason of their activities with a historic and social sight seeking for the group steps as well as their living time and environment, exploring the significant influence which their artistic activities exert on English modern art.
