A Report On E-C Translation Of Cultural Politics Of Translation:East Africa In A Global Context(Excerpt)

Frantz Fanon is an influential thinker in the anti-colonism and black rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s.As a representative writer of African Diaspora of the Western hemisphere,Fanon’s work The Wretched of the Earth reflects an important stage in his life and reflections on African liberation,which has great influences on Africa until now.The Wretched of the Earth became one of a handful of foreign language texts which has two Swahili versions.The third chapter is selected as the source text,which illustrates the translation of Frantz Fanon’s work in Tanzania and analyzes two translations of The Wretched of the Earth in terms of linguistic choices in the translation and the social effect of these translations under different contexts.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s skopos theory,the report conducts an analysis of the E-C translation of "Translating Fanon in Socialist Tanzania—Between the Wretched and the Damned"from an academic monograph entitled Cultural Politics of Translation:East Africa in a Global Context.The report is made up of four chapters.Chapter One illustrates the task description including the introduction of the source text,features of the source text,and the research background and significance.Chapter Two describes the task process including preparations before translation,translation process,and quality control.Chapter Three is the case analysis which analyzes translation strategies of academic texts from lexical,syntactic and discourse levels on the basis of skopos theory.Chapter Four makes a conclusion of the experience of the translation as well as the unsolved problems.The analysis of the E-C translation of "Translating Fanon in Socialist Tanzania—Between the Wretched and the Damned" is beneficial for the author to have further understandings of academic texts,which hopefully can provide references for the research on academic texts about cultural politics of translation.
