This thesis focuses on the application of the three rules of skopos theory in the translation of the academic texts which are on the topic of consumption and related to the study of micro-level luxury consumption. The source texts for this translation practice are both academic articles from Journal of Business Research, which are “From connoisseur luxury to mass luxury: value co-creation and co-destruction in the online environment” and “Constructing a typology of luxury brand consumption practices”.The author explores the translations at the lexical level and the syntactic level, and the translation methods employed in this translation process at the syntactic level mainly consist of division, combination, translating sentences without changing the original structure and translating sentences by inversion. At the lexical level, they are literal translation, free translation, addition, omission, conversion of parts of speech, generalization, specification and substitution. The translation study at the micro levels mentioned above from the perspective of skopos theory have certain value for reference in the current literature. Therefore, the specific translation methods this thesis summarizes from such translations can be available for reference to relevant research, especially the English-Chinese translation of academic texts related to micro-level luxury consumption. |
