A Report On The Translation Of Popular Science Articles From The Environmental Column Of TIME

Popular science articles popularize scientific knowledge in a way that easy for the public to understand.Advocating scientific methods,spreading scientific thoughts and spirit,popular science articles are scientific,literary,interesting and popular.This report is based on five long popular science articles in the environment column of Time magazine,including marine exploration,coral reef protection,invasive species and renewable energy application.In protecting the ecological environment,governments have stepped up cooperation,taking actively part in dialogues and exchanges,drawing on achievements to improve national awareness of ecological environment protection.What’s more,there are still a few translations of popular science articles of ecological environment in China,so people can take reference and study from this report on popular science articles translation and research.During the process of translation,the translator combined the Functional Equivalence Theory with the translation practice.The theory requires to reproduce the original information with the most natural and proper language in the target culture and emphasizes the content,paying much attention to readers’ understanding.All the theory can be applied in popular science articles translation.The writer mainly uses different translation strategies to achieve equivalence between the translation and the original text in lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.This report consists of four parts.The first chapter is task description,including the choosing reason and the significance.The second chapter is task process,introducing the text characteristics,the parallel materials and the translation process.The third chapter is case analysis,which consists of Functional Equivalence Theory,the correlation between the theory and popular science articles and the translation strategies in three levels.The fourth chapter is the conclusion.
