A Study On The Flaking Of Mural Paintings Of Yuan Dynasty In The Great Hall Of Fengguo Temple

Fengguo Temple is located in the northeast of Yixian County,Jinzhou City,Liaoning Province.It is a famous Liao Dynasty wooden structure.It is a national key cultural relics protection unit and has been included in the World Cultural Heritage Reserve List in recent years.In the main hall of the Great Hall,the mural paintings of the Yuan Dynasty are huge,with exquisite painting skills and characteristics of the Yuan Dynasty.They have extremely high historical,artistic and scientific value.Although the mural painting in the Yuan Dynasty has been restored,the preservation of the mural painting is still not good,and a variety of diseases have appeared.The flaking is particularly serious and it is an important issue to be solved urgentlyThis thesis takes the flaking disease in Yuan Dynasty mural paintings in the Great Hall of Fengguo Temple as the research object.Through investigating the current status of the flaking disease,the types of flaking disease in the mural paintings are clarified,and its characteristics and distribution rules are summarized.Through the analysis of the types and properties of the mural paintings’ materials,the internal factors and distribution characteristics of flaking diseases is explored;Through monitoring the environment,the external factors that affect the occurrence of flaking disease are explored.The result of simulation experiment verify the cause.Through monitoring the preservation of the mural,evaluate the impact of restoration on the mural painting.Combining the above methods,starting with a survey on the current status of flaking diseases,comprehensively determining the causes of flaking diseases from both internal and external factors,and conducting a systematic and comprehensive study on the flaking diseases existing in the restored murals of the Yuan Dynasty.The research results indicate that the main types of flaking disease in murals are craquelure,and the bubblelike flaking,and it have obvious distribution rules.The flaking in the mural is caused by a combination of various factors.Due to the drastic changes in the local environment,the binding media of the pigment layer is aging and the structure is broken.Due to the low strength of the plaster layer,the pigment is easy to appear shrinkage cracks and detach from the surface of plaster layer.The fluctuation of the natural environment and the wind environment in the Great Hall caused the flaking and paint layer detachment.The production process of the paint layer,the strength of the ground layer and the wind environment in the main hall make the distribution of flaking.After restoration,a structural mutation occurred,which changed the direction of the effect of the mural and the environment.The aging of the surface consolidation material reduced the intensity of the material,thereby promoting the further development of flaking.The restored murals have formed a more uniform surface condition,but they will still be affected by the natural environment,causing further development of flaking.Through the research on the causes of flaking diseases and the assessment of the condition of the murals,it provides a theoretical basis for the re-treatment of the flaking diseases of murals in Fengguo Temple.
