| With the international status rising and international exchanges increasing, the call for Chinese culture going out is getting more pressing. As an important part of Chinese culture,Chinese folk culture bears special value of transmission, which is conducive to spreading Chinese classic thoughts, building Chinese cultural identity and strengthening Chinese cultural soft power. Therefore, the translation of Chinese folk culture has been receiving greater attention in the process of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. The translation practice material is excerpted from Chapter Ten of Chinese Folk Culture, introducing Chinese unique festival culture, especially the culture of ethnic minorities.Through much translation practice,it is discovered that the three-dimensional transformation method of Hu Gengshen?s theory of Eco-translatology,namely linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension, can be effectively applied in translating Chinese folk culture. The translator first analyzes the translation ecological environment of source text including stylistic features and culture-loaded words. Then the translator conducts the adaptive selection of festival customs and festival names from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation.Next the practical translation is performed from three dimensions with detail translation methods. From linguistic dimension, the translator adapts the language form of the original language including the translation of four-character phrases, figure of speech, semantic repetition and no-subject sentences, and puts forward specific methods such as conversion of part of speech, literal translation, semantic deletion, and shift of voice as well as amplification. From cultural dimension, the translator makes adaptive transformation from the cultural implication of names of festivals and Gods as well as the culture-loaded words.Based on the similarities and differences in the nature and content of the culture between Chinese and English, the translator comes up with the methods of transliteration plus annotation, paraphrasing, literal translation and amplification,so as to appropriately transmit the cultural connotations of Chinese festival customs. From communicative dimension, the transformation of bilingual intention is realized from the translation of story description and different logical order between Chinese and English.Through the translation practice, the translator learns that in the translation of Chinese folk culture, text information should be understood accurately before translating, especially culture-loaded words and specific cultural implications.Meanwhile, the relationship of the three dimensions in translating Chinese folk culture is both interconnected and relatively independent. It needs to figure out the relationship of the three dimensions in order to better realize bilingual text transformation. However, the adaptive transformation of target text is currently remained to be further improved in view of the insufficiency of in-depth understanding of some minority cultures. |
