This thesis makes a retrospect on the development of the schema theory;introduces the definitions, features and classifications; explores the feasibility of theapplication of schema theory into the English version of Chinese university introduction.According to schema theory, this thesis mainly discusses from the three aspects:language, form and content, and then, finds out the specific features in the publicity ofuniversity introduction. At last, a general schema of a general university introduction isabstracted.The materials in this thesis are mainly selected from the websites of the top10universities in China. The selected samples are comparatively with rich content andcomplete arrangements.There are some conclusions: firstly, the comprehension of English version ofuniversity introduction can be accomplished by activating the linguistic schemata whichmainly include lexis and idiomatic usages. Association of Chinese and universityculture can be activated by the use of specific lexis and idioms with special meanings,which can indirectly publicize the university; secondly, formal schema can help readersto understand introductions to some extent, mainly include tense, voice, parallelingstructure. For the use of passive voices, the university introduction tends to objectivedescription, which indirectly makes the introduction more persuasive and vocative. Fortense investigation, present tense and present perfect tense are commonly used, whichtells us the introduction is more up-to-date. The use of paralleling sentences can givereader a better impression; thirdly, by analysis on content schemata, an abstractedgeneral schema of university introduction is worked out.At the end of this thesis, the author points out that the schema theory can guide thecomposition and reading of the university introduction, then extends the great hope to readers for paying their close attention to the significance and guidance of schematheory on English version of Chinese university introductions.
