| With the rapid development of globalization,all kinds of disasters frequently occur,which have brought many risks to people’s production and life.As one of the countries with frequent unexpected disasters in the world,there are multiple disasters with great influence in China.Accordingly,a large number of uneven levels’ disaster prevention and emergency response handbooks have appeared in the domestic market.From the perspective of the actual situation in China and the requirements of a community with a shared future for mankind,it presents great social demands and research values to translate Chinese disaster prevention and emergency response handbooks.Therefore,the translator takes National Disaster Prevention & Emergency Response Handbook(Excerpts)as the research object of the translation practice.National Disaster Prevention & Emergency Response Handbook is written by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in order to promote the first national activity of “Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day”,improve public awareness of disaster prevention and reduction,and popularize disaster prevention and reduction knowledge and self-rescue capacity.The popular science text was published by Science Press in2009 and was reprinted many times later.The source text scientifically explains the dangers and emergency measures of disasters like natural disasters and accident disasters,and introduces the elementary knowledge of disaster prevention and self-rescue skills with vivid pictures in a straightforward way.It shows that it is scientific,practicable and fairly interesting and so on.Therefore,the translator should not only accurately and fully transmit the original information,but also attract readers while translating.Under the guidance of Information Theory,the translator adopts translation strategies such as literal translation,rewording,free translation,voice inversion,imperative sentences translation and structural adjustments to achieve the goal of information equivalence in the process of translation,so as to make the translation information adapt to the channel capacity of the target readers.At the same time,the translator further explores the translation strategies of emergency popular science texts.The translation practice report includes five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the background of the translation project,the significance of the translation project and the structure of the report;The second chapter includes the description of emergency popular science,the introduction to Information Theory and the studies on Information Theory in translation;The third chapter describes the translation process,which is divided into three parts: pre-translation,while-translation,post-translation;The fourth chapter discusses the application of Information Theory in the practice of emergency popular science translation from three aspects: titles,lexical level and syntactic level;The fifth chapter summarizes the findings,the gains and the limitations of the translation practice.Through the translation,the translator not only has a better understanding of the characteristics of emergency popular science texts,but also improves her own translation ability.On the one hand,the translator hopes that it can help to enhance the knowledge popularization of disaster prevention and emergency response in China and promote the communication of the knowledge of disaster prevention and emergency response at home and abroad;On the other hand,the translator also hopes that it can provide some advice for emergency popular science translation. |
