Compared with developed countries,China's emergency management system started late, and there are many successful experiences abroad which can be learned by us.Therefore, the translator chose the emergency preparation materials from the American Red Cross website as the research topic of this translation practice. The original text is a kind of practical texts about disaster prevention and emergency response, which aims to train people's judgment, emergency response ability and escape ability during an emergency. The source text uses popular, vivid and easy to understand language to disseminate and popularize disaster prevention and emergency response knowledge to the public,so the smoothness and readability of the translated text is an important criterion for the translation of the source text.In this translation practice report, the translator mainly discusses how to use suitable translation strategies to solve the problems and difficulties encountered in translation process under the guidance of Newmark's text type theory and communicative translation, and further explores more translation strategies and skills of practical texts. In the report, the author lists translation cases from two aspects: vocabulary and sentence. In those cases, the translator analyzes and summarizes the strategies and methods adopted in dealing with specific translation problems, which mainly involves addition, omission, negation, conversion and free translation. It is confirmed that Newmark's text type theory and communicative translation play an important guiding role in the process of translation.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to provide some help for the development of China's disaster prevention and emergency system, and to explore more feasible strategies for the future translation of practical texts.
