| Mount Kunyu is the birthplace of the Quanzhen sect,the Taoism in Mount Kunyu is an important part of Taoism in Shandong and even in China.In the Ming and Qing dynasties,Taoism in Mount Kunyu could not be compared with that in the Jin and Yuan dynasties or with the other parts of Shandong Province at the same time.But the Taoism in Mount Kunyu did not completely decline and still developed,it provided the spiritual beliefs of Taoism to the people of the Mount Kunyu region,maintained good interaction with the local people.Because of its special geographical location and natural environment,Mount Kunyu had a strong religious atmosphere during the Qin and Han dynasties.A large number of Buddhist affairs were built here in the Sui dynasty.In the late Tang dynasty,the belief of Ma Gu became popular.There have always been Taoist priests practicing here,but they have not become the prevailing conditions.By the time of the Jin and Yuan dynasties Wang Chongyang had traveled east from Shaanxi to establish the Quanzhen sect here,Taoism entered a new historical period in Mount Kunyu.With the departure of six of the seven Wang’s students,Mount Kunyu’s position as the center of the Quanzhen sect would no longer exist,the influence of Taoism in Mount Kunyu began to decline.By the the Ming and Qing dynasties,Taoism as a whole was in decline.However,in some areas of Shandong Province,Taoism has shoun the characteristics of local prosperity.Taoism in Mount Kunyu is not like Taoism in other prosperous Shandong regions,but also in the Taoist temple restoration and the nvw construction and the Taoist priest inheritance aspect has the progress.Like the Taoism in Mount Kunyu in the past dynasties,the Taoism in Mount Kunyu during the Ming and Qing dynasties still maintained a good interactive relationship with the people in Mount Kunyu,had became an important part of people’s spiritual and material life. |
