| Yang Xiong is an excellent Ci Fu writer after Sima Xiangru of the Former Han Dynasty.With his large amount of works left behind,Liu Xie,a famous critique of South Dynasty,entitled him as one of the ten best Ci Fu writers.He is honored that “Of the body Han Ci Fu writers,Changqing(Sima Xiangru)leads the head and Ziyun(Yang Xiong)is the wing that flies”.His Ci Fu,though with trace of imitation,cannot eclipse the bright of creativity.Achievement of his creation works have inherited Qin and Han Dynasties and initiated that of Later Han,Wei and Jin Dynasties.Yang Xiong himself is an meritorious figure for development of Han Ci Fu.This article will take acceptance of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu before Tang Dynasty as object of study,mainly reviewing acceptance status of representative authors and critiques of the period.The article includes five parts:Chapter one analyzes content and art characters of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu in his early and later periods.There is a transition of themes of Yang Xiong Ci Fu works from emphasizing social political prosenctions of literature to emphasis of self expression.What drives this transition is the irreconcilable conflict between aesthetics and prosenctionality and the awakening of personality consciousness.Chapter two analyzes that yoked by study of Confucian classics,Ci Fu is required of practical and critique functions.Acceptance of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu works,in this sense,are mainly criticizing that his Ci Fu are more beautiful than persuading.Of them,Huan Tan and Wang Chong had recognized Yang Xiong’s status in history of Ci Fu and criticized his lack of persuading.Ban Gu,a historian of Later Han Dynasty who authored The Book of Han Shu,had included and categorized Ci Fu of Yang Xiong in the Book of Han Shu and he actually imitated works of Yang Xiong in his own creations,which has indicated that he personally accepts ideas of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu.Chapter three discuses that men of literature of Wei and Jin dynasties,who have independent literati mentalities,echos with emotional Ci Fu of Yang Xiong,they inherited and implemented innovations to his Ci Fu.Tao Yuanming,a famous man of literature of Jin Dynasty,deeply echoed with Yang Xiong inthinking and literature creativity.One of Yang’s Ci Fu,Zhu Pin Fu,encourage Tao to his life pursuit of staying in poverty and integrity,and perfecting himself in solo.Furthermore,scholars of Wei and Jin dynasties had inherited and developed his Fan Ti and Lian Zhu Ti by imitating and and reforming them.Chapter four is narration of development of literature critiques of North and South Dynasties,which indicates that literature has been at a new altitude by itself and Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu are more widely accepted.Wen Xuan of Xiao Tong of this period embodied early works of Yang Xiong and confirm status of this Ci Fu writer.Wen Xin Diao Long,another important work of literature critiques,implemented overall comment on Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu and acknowledged beauty of his Ci Fu and functionality of his discourse upon Ci Fu.The critique also proposed it own idea and creation on conflict between form and quality.Chapter five will summarize history of acceptance of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu before Tang Dynasty on a macro perspective and analyse mentality and literature trends from Later Han to Wei,Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynasties and analyse reasons behind changes of acceptance of Yang Xiong’s Ci Fu before Tang Dynasty. |
