Abstract/Summary:
The author participated in the translation of The Smoke of London----Energy and Environment in The Early Modern City and An Environmental History of Great Britain: From 10,000 Years Ago to The Present.Because both books cited a large number of poems, the author had a strong interest in how to translate poetry in academic texts in the process of translation. Both of the two books the author co-translated are works on environmental history. The first book is based on the environment of London. The first book is based on the environment of London, and it includes that the city has changed from a beautiful scenery to a harsh environment with smoggy. The second book, from the perspective of anthropology, describes the integration of humanity and nature in Britain over the past ten thousand years. Both books are academic texts in the strict sense. The characteristics of academic writing restrict it to be rigorous in wording and logic in structure. The authors cite a large number of poetic texts which are contrary to the academic texts,so as to help readers understand the texts.Starting from the cited poems, the author analyzes their textual features and divides them into lyric poems, narrative poems, dramatic poems and others;it also puts forward translation strategies from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics(mainly),Translator’s Subjectivity,Paratext and Context theory. It specifically discusses how academic texts and poetic texts merge and coexist with each other;how to translate poems in academic texts;and what translation strategies can better reflect the original author’s intentions. The whole paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, the second chapter is the literature review, the third chapter is theoretical framework and the fourth chapter is source text analysis, chapter five is strategies of translation.
