This paper is a translation report, and the source text comes from The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Marketing by Maria Johnsen,a search engine expert in artificial intelligence.Consisting of twenty-one chapters, this book discusses the application of artificial intelligence and big data in search engine. The first two chapters mainly introduce the history of artificial intelligence, search engine, and big data. This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Chapter One and Chapter Two of The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Digital Marketing.Under the guidance of J.C.Catford’s translation shifts theory, the translator discussed the problems that she has met in her translation process. The analyses show that the translator has adopted various translation methods to deal with different challenges. At the lexical level, the translator used the online dictionaries to translate the acronyms and technical terms in the source text. She also shifted nouns to verbs, and shifted prepositions to verbs by analyzing the specific context. At the syntactic level, the translator mainly made use of structure shift and segmentation to deal with complex sentences. Moreover, she adopted reconstruction method in consideration of the different logical order between two languages. At the grammatical level, the translator used shift and changed the passive voice into active one to handle the translation of tense and passive voice respectively. This report aims to provide some references for artificial intelligence enthusiasts and translators engaged in the translation of scientific-technological text.
