Abstract/Summary:
This practice report is based on translation of excerpts from Analysis Grammar,a well-known textbook for beginners to learn grammar analysis. The source text is selected from the Preface,Chapter One and Chapter Seven of the book.At the lexical level, the source text contains a large number of linguistic terms, but the Chinese translations of these terms are diverse;at the syntactic level, there are some difficult sentences in the source text that have rich theoretical content in complex ideas. In addition,a large number of parentheses indicating different functions appear in the source text. All those facts pose challenges to the translator.Under the guiding principles of Text Typology and Skopos theory, the translator solved these problems one by one.In response to the difficulties at the lexical level, the translator reads a large numbers of books and corpus data before she makes careful selection of appropriate Chinese terminology.Likewise, for the ones at the sentence level, she adopts a variety of appropriate translation methods to solve the problems according to the principle of Skops, intertextucal and intratextual coherence. In terms of parentheses, the translator classifies their functions one by one and flexibly adopts different translation methods. Finally, after the self-proofreading and peer-proofreading,the translator invites the supervisor to further polish the translation to ensure the quality of the translation. This report truly records the specific process of this translation practice, which hopefully has certain significance for future translation practice.
