| Nowadays, with the rapid development of modern finance, the banking industry is facing great challenges and declining increasingly. The source text is excerpted from The Lost Art of Banking by Aisling Tuite, which is an economic text. This book mainly describes the changes and reforms of the banking industry from the perspective of bank employees. At the lexical level, the source text has many financial terms, abstract nouns and set collocations. At the syntactic level, long and complicated sentences are commonly seen.Passive sentences are widely used. The analysis of linguistic features helps to find difficulties in translation, which are translation of collocations and of long and complicated sentences.Under the theoretical guidance of Hu Zhuanglin’s Context Theory, solutions to these difficulties in translation are put forward.Specifically,in consideration of the linguistic, situational and cultural context, multiple translation techniques are applied, like amplification, conversion, omission, division, linear translation and reversion, which can make the translated version more idiomatic. These translation techniques each are exemplified with typical sentences to demonstrate how to apply Context Theory to solve above difficulties in translation. This translation practice brings me many deep insights into translation, which is helpful to translate other economic texts in the future. |
