| Interpreting,which requires the interpreter to transmit information from the source language to the target language accurately and efficiently,is an activity that needs bilingual processing with great cognitive load since the interpreter also needs to consider about the communication effects and the culture backgrounds of two languages.The interpreter should employ some strategies and skills to complete interpreting task with high quality.Chunk is the effective sense group that builds a sentence,and it is an important factor that affects interpreting.From the perspective of chunk,this thesis uses the method of empirical research to carry out interpreting comparison study,then tries to explore the differences on chunk employment and awareness between professional interpreters and interpreting learners.According to the data analysis,the effects of chunk on interpreting are further explained,and the systematic chunk-based input and output model is proposed to reduce interpreter’s burden and improve interpreting quality.This systematic model includes four modes: chunked-in and chunked-out expression,optimized lexicalization,repeated-phrase-division for sense group,recognition of regular chunks.Chunked-in and chunked-out expression means that the interpreter memorizes and stores in advance chunks but not single words in mind and outputs them directly while interpreting.It can reduce interpreter’s energy dispersion and the interpreting pressure.Optimized lexicalization requires the interpreter to make full use of the lexical characteristics of English,which is favorable for simplifying the output expressions.Repeated-phrase-division for sense group means that the interpreter can consciously and selectively memorize key information points except the repeated phrases in the parallelism framework during listening,and sort out the logical relations between these key points to help memory input.The interpreter can also use the repetition number as a memorizing guidance and interpret the same number of information points during outputting.Recognition of regular chunks is a mode that adopts in Chinese to English interpreting.When the source language is spoken in Chinese,chunks with the same number of words always appear regularly,such as the four-character patterns,so the interpreter can divide sense groups according to this regular speaking rhythm and strengthen memory input.These four modes can be used in combination with each other or used separately in interpreting,with the purpose to alleviate interpreter’s burden and pressure and promote interpreting quality as well.This thesis aims at comparing the differences on chunking between professional interpreters and interpreting learners,and exploring the application model of chunk in interpreting,so as to provide some references for the interpreting practice and study. |
